OVERVIEW
Currently, users use multiple tools that all have similar functionality. The team is working to create a standalone product. The purpose of this user research is to understand how users use the internal tool, identify pain points and opportunities, and guide the design of the new standalone tool.
ROLE
UX Designer, UI Designer, Team | Led end-to-end UX research initiative, planned and conducted stakeholder interviews, synthesized qualitative data into actionable insights via affinity mapping, and communicated findings to the team.
GOALS
• Identify opportunities and insights that guide the design of the new tool.
• Understand how users use the tool and get a better understanding of the functions within the tool.
TOOLS
Figma, Mural, Microsoft Teams
DURATION

RESEARCH APPROACH
USER INTERVIEWS
THE RESEARCH
Based on the interviews conducted, users valued multiple tabs within the tool and identified features that they valued to help them accomplish their work. They also identified a few pain points within the tool. After taking notes from the interviews, the next step was to organize the data by performing affinity mapping (see below).
AFFINITY MAPPING
To synthesize the data from the interviews, I performed affinity mapping. This organizes large volumes of data to help identify underlying patterns and identify actionable insights and themes.
OUTCOME & RECOMMENDATIONS
• Proposed receipt feature in the new tool that has similar functionality to the current tool.
• Shared recommendations with product design teams to inform key findings and insights.
• Anticipated goal: reduce the number of tools users have to access for their work where possible.
