overview
The purpose of this project is to create a poster series through experimental typography. All three posters need to be different yet share similar concepts in order to create a series. The shared theme between the three is Elusive Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes, navigating Patti Smith, Charmaine Lee, and JJJJJerome Ellis, who are experimental artists pushing boundaries of music and poetry.
About the artists:
Patti Smith played a huge roll in the Punk Rock movement of the 70s. She combined her poetry and a couple musicians to create a band. Jerome Ellis (JJJJJerome) embraces his stutter through his poetry and jazzy feel to his work. Charmaine Lee used as many as four microphones at once in order to create music through the distortions of her voice.

Mood board & Inspiration
sketches
The first step was to sketch out ideas and possible layouts with the type play. There were so many routes that could be taken to go about the different physical type play.
type play and experimentation
Folding and bending the paper created a distorted look, which represented each artist as they explore and push boundaries. Using separation, each letter was cut up in which it created a collage look that added to the visual feel of each poster. Colors for the musical aspect were adjusted to original versions of the photos so each poster had its own color.
poster iterations
Pictured above were some of the beginning iterations in the first type play experiments. As more type play and experimentation occurred, the common theme and look was established. This allowed a direction to start working in to determine the concept of all three posters.
